To be able to be eligible for the SEG, you must install a renewable electricity-generating system like Solar Panels.

You need a smart meter, as you will have to be able to provide half-hourly export readings.

Your installation and installer should be certified through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

You will need to use an MCS registered installer like us at MD Electrics Northwest Ltd.

In order to receive the payments through SEG, you will have to apply with a licensee. This is an electricity supplier which offers an export tariff. SEG licensees must provide a tariff if you have installed Solar Panels which meet the criteria through the MCS.

The licensee may be a different supplier from your current energy supplier.

The tariffs can change, it is recommended to check them regularly to make sure you have the best possible tariff.

Great news for anyone planning on having solar panels or battery storage (BESS) fitted on their home as there is currently 0% VAT to pay on these systems.

This rate will last until 31st of March 2027. After this date, the rate will increase to 5% VAT on all domestic solar panel and battery storage installations.
